During our year of travelling, we planned to make a short stopover to Kuala Lumpur. For as long as I can remember, I’ve always dreamed of visiting the Petronas Towers. I must have seen photos during my university days and had that destination on my bucket list since then.
I also heard good things about Malaysian food and how similar it is to the Singapore food scene. Considering how I fell in love with Singapore food when we visited the country, Kuala Lumpur became a must-visit during our year of travel.
When it comes to picking hotels, I usually search on SPG first because they treat loyalty members well and they offer pretty good value. Note, this was before the SPG and Marriott merger when SPG had one of the best hotel loyalty programs. If prices are too high or the points redemption isn’t a worthy trade, then I look outside SPG. In this case, I found the perfect accommodation that allowed us to pay part of our stay in cash and points.
Arriving with Platinum status at Hotel Aloft KL Sentral
I was an SPG gold member before our trip to KL and was happy to finally be a Platinum member for this stay. While Aloft doesn’t always recognize platinum status, this hotel did! That meant we got a free upgrade and free breakfast with our stay! I’m not sure if that’s still offered under the new loyalty program though so make sure to double check with the hotel.
The ambiance at Hotel Aloft KL Sentral
Trendy and urban are the two words that come to mind. Many people looked like they were staying for business while others were on vacation. The common space is well designed, functional, and in line with what you’d expect from the Aloft brand.
The room at Hotel Aloft KL Sentral
The hotel room has a modern and sleek feel. Definitely a great place to chill with the high ceiling, local art (ours had a durian painting!) as well as a free minibar with snacks stocked daily! Hurray for late night munchies!
The bathroom is quite cool and modern too.
The space is well designed for two people. There were times when I wanted to chill on the couch or table away from G♥. G♥ could them stay on the bed, allowing us to have our own space. The sizeable room was nice considering how we were spending 24/7 with each other for the past month.
Of course, there are lots of power outlets and even USB chargers on the wall. Great for when you need to connect two laptops, two phones, and cameras at the same time.
The bed was super comfy and came with body pillows! They didn’t look like there were fabric covers on the body pillows so I didn’t use them, but still, it’s a nice touch for body pillow lovers like me!
The service at Hotel Aloft KL Sentral
Because the hotel is quite large, the service was more informal than what you’d expect from a boutique hotel. But of course, everyone was polite and courteous. We also didn’t have any major requests or problems, but I’m sure the staff would have done an excellent job helping us if that situation were to arise.
The Food at Hotel Aloft KL Sentral
As I mentioned earlier, my Platinum status got us free breakfast at Nook, the hotel’s restaurant.
The location of Hotel Aloft KL Sentral
This hotel definitely wins on being well located in Kuala Lumpur. Not only is Aloft right on top of the central transit hub, but it is also connected to a shopping mall! As well, all major tourist locations are a few minutes away by train. The furthest place to travel for us was the Batu Caves. But since we were right at KL Sentral station, it took us only thirty minutes or so to arrive at Batu Caves.
It was adjacent and attached to Nu Sentral, a large mall which we did not realize until we checked into the hotel. Being next to the mall made it super convenient for us. And to be honest, we kind of missed being near malls and the conveniences that come with the mall after spending a month in Bali.
As well, the Skybus airport shuttle is a short walk from the hotel so getting to and from the airport was not a big hassle.
The gym at Hotel Aloft KL Sentral
The gym is large and has everything you need to sneak in an intense workout during your stay. There’s even 24-hour access which makes it super convenient for those who likes to work out at any hour of the day.
The pool at Hotel Aloft KL Sentral
This pool seems to be busy at all hours of the day, so it’s hard to have the pool all to yourself. At night, it does have a magical feel to it, with the buildings illumined all around you. I loved that the bar was always cranking on some awesome music.
The Re:Mix – Lounge at Hotel Aloft KL Sentral
I loved this space! The lounge is very playful with lots of beautiful colours. I can see how Aloft would be very fun for a large group of friends to stay and chill, especially since there are so many common spaces to use.
The In-touch Terminals at Hotel Aloft KL Sentral
This space is nice to sit and lounge around. You can even do work if you needed to do so. It’s good for digital nomads I suppose. iMacs are available for you to use in case you needed a computer.
Dining options at Hotel Aloft KL Sentral
Aloft has a few restaurants at the hotel. We only tried their breakfast (perks of an SPG member!) which was delicious. The spread was large, and there was a lot of variety. There is Nook, re:fuel Grab ‘N’ Go Café, Mai Bar and W XYZ bar
Hotel Aloft KL Sentral, an excellent choice for Kuala Lumpur
I loved our stay in Aloft and would not hesitate to choose this hotel if we are to find ourselves in KL again.
