Hotel Le Meridien Chiang Mai

Note: This hotel stay was from my first trip to Chiang Mai when I had no idea how to edit photos or operate a camera. If you want to see examples of my work, click here to read about Jaya House River Park. You can find all hotel accommodations features here.

Hotel Le Meridien Chiang Mai holds a special place in my heart. Afterall, it was the place we stayed at when we got acquainted with this incredible city. That trip was also what convinced us to come back to Chiang Mai during our year of travel. Which, as some of you may know, then led us to live in Chiang Mai for a few months because Chiang Mai is so awesome! But I digress – I’ll save that post for another day.

Why I chose Hotel Le Meridien Chiang Mai

When I was planning our month long travel in Asia and Mauritius, I was looking to stay within the SPG family. We used our rewards points for this stay, and the return on redemption was 2.8%, which is not bad. Chiang Mai was on our radar thanks to the rave reviews we heard about the place from digital nomads, and so we decided to check out the city. Plus, we LOVE khao soi and heard that Chiang Mai was the hotspot for this delicious noodle soup.

First impressions of Hotel Le Meridien Chiang Mai

Unlike the other hotels I’ve stayed in, this hotel has a bustling lobby. It was quite loud and noisy the first day I arrived as it was packed with guests. Because the hotel is one of the larger ones in Chiang Mai, there seemed to be a few group tours that use this hotel as an accommodation. I was also greeted with a few mosquitos in the lobby, which was a surprise since I was indoors.

The room at Hotel Le Meridien Chiang Mai

I stayed on the Starwood Preferred Guest (SPG) floor since I was a gold member of the Starwood Preferred Guest program. Like most SPG properties, the layout of the room was functional and practical.

Bathtub next to the rain shower with a window overlooking the bed. We still don’t know the real reason why Asia hotels have glass walls between the bathroom and bed!

I find the glass walls separating the bedroom and bathroom to be quite popular in Asian cities. While I don’t get the practicality of it, I do think it’s a neat feature of the room. Maybe it’s so that people can take a bath while watching TV?

I like bathrooms with windows to the bedroom. It looks cool

While there was nothing spectacular about the room, it did its job and made my stay in Chiang Mai pretty comfortable. After staying in dingy places in my younger years, I’m quite appreciative when my room has a safe, clean sheets and towels.

I was very impressed with the service at Le Meridien Chiang Mai. Most of the employees I interacted at the hotel were kind, friendly and thoughtful. It can be that Thai people, in general, are courteous and polite, or it could be that they are happy workers at the hotel. Either way, I never felt like I was dealing with cranky workers or people with attitude problems.

While the service across the hotel was pleasant, the employees at the concierge made my trip extra memorable. The staff was excellent at recommending places that fit what I was looking for. For example, they suggested the tour operator for my day trip to Chiang Rai to see the white temple. They also provided excellent recommendations for other things like money exchange places and authentic restaurants. I have to thank the staff here for recommending to me the best khao soi I’ve ever had in my life at Khao Soi Islam! Seriously, this place is so delicious that the only reason why we decided to come back to Chiang Mai during our year of travels was to eat at this restaurant. Since then we’ve discovered even better khao soi places but...that’s a post for another time.

The location of hotel Le Meridien Chiang Mai

Le Meridien’s location was convenient for almost everything that I wanted to do. This hotel was within minutes away from night markets, restaurants, and little shops. Le Meridien is also a ten-minute drive from the airport and a fifteen-minute walk from the old city.

The facilities at hotel Le Meridien Chiang Mai

Swimming pool!

I can’t comment too much on the amenities. While they had the standard swimming pool, gym, restaurants, I didn’t have much time to chill at the hotel. All I can say is that they had a nice pool with a great view. But take one look at the view, and you’ll want to go out and explore the city instead.

This hotel is good for those who have never been to Chiang Mai or are looking for a place that is ultra comfortable. Not only did it cover everything I am looking for in a convenient location and excellent service, but the rates are reasonable. I definitely felt I was getting a lot of value for the price of the hotel room.
